Hanukkiah Lampe de Nuit with the Grapes of Canaan
My first hanukkiah, made up of 8 small lampes de Nuit with gold arabesques, and a shamash with a painted scene. The two spies holding a giant cluster of grapes, or sometimes just grapes, were featured on historical hanukkiahs since at least the 18th century. The imagery, with it’s almost comical scale tells the story of the spies of Canaan, on their hunt for the land of milk and honey. Grapes were also considered one of the only acceptable offerings for the temple, as they are listed in the bible as one of the seven species from the land of Israel.
Since this Hanukkiah is modular, it can also be used year round for different occasions.
