Peacock Feather Lockbox
Peacocks are often decorated in the home, from Roman frescos and mosaics, to the spring themed silk tapestries of Marie Antoinette’s bedroom at Versailles. This box gets its inspiration from both places, and beyond! The pink temple on the first side of the box is featured in a miniature fresco from Pompeii, which is currently at the met. The next side has a proud peacock standing on a pink vessel, with a distant mountain behind. The scene continues to a grey and blue temple with the truck of a tree that extends into the next side. The final side has a river and an egret battling a snake. The bolt, sides, lid, and top arches are decorated with Peacock feathers, which are painted with gold and iridescent lusters. The sides of the lid and bolt are decorated with a gold pattern found in many Pompeian frescos.
Dimensions: 7 3/4” x 4 1/8” x 4 1/8”
