Sampler Flower Brick
This flower brick is inspired by english flower bricks from the 18th century. The top is covered with different sized holes, which can either be used for stems, or forcing bulbs. Stakes can also be inserted into the small holes in case the tulip or paper whites you’re sprouting get too long.
The Brick is painted in the manner of a sample dish. Sample dishes were used for quality control, test new colors and color combinations, as reference for the artisans, and also to show options to potential clients, who would normally order items to their exact specifications and tastes. Later examples only show swatches of color as opposed to miniature scenes.
